DirectQuery Error: DirectQuery may not be used with this data source

For one of our PBI report we're facing the "DirectQuery Error: DirectQuery may not be used with this data source-please consider moving to supported data source or upgrading the SQL server data source to the latest available version." The source is AzureDatabricks and I tried by loading the data by both Import and DirectQuery storage mode and they're loading successfully. I checked the access as well to databricks and I'm having access as well. I tried to reauthenticate the dataset but still the error persists. Please help me to suggest a solution on this!

    Thanks for confirming. Since you're using the January 2025 version of Power BI Desktop and the latest release is from July 2025, I’d recommend updating to the latest version. Sometimes older versions can run into compatibility issues, especially when using DirectQuery with services like Azure Databricks.

    Also, just to be sure, please check that your on premises gateway is up to date too.

    HI rasika_pawar ,

    I think that you should confirm that your Gateway and Power BI Desktop are both current and up to date.  Then, try it again.  If it still fails, this might require a MIcrosoft support ticket.

      Hi,

      Thank you for your response.

      Yes, gateway is connected and it is online and PBI Desktop version is January 2025. Latest version is July 25. Is it causing?

    Hi rasika_pawar ,

    Thank you for engaging with the Microsoft Fabric Community. Adding to what collinqalready suggested  this error can sometimes occur due to how the connection is configured.

    Specifically, please check.

    1. You're using the Azure Databricks connector, not a generic ODBC or JDBC connector.

    2. The connection is made to a Databricks SQL Warehouse endpoint.

    3. Both Power BI Desktop and Gateway are updated to the latest versions.
