Direct Query / Live connections - changing column/measure names

Hello,

I would like to have a thin file connected by Direct Query or Live connection to a dataset hosted on Service. However I would like the visualisations to automatically update if I change the name of a column or measure in the semantic model. A couple of experiments suggest visualisations break if I change a column / measure name in the semantic model - please does anyone know of a solution?

(I was kind of expecting power bi to be able to trace columns / measures through the links by some kind of id and for any name changes to flow through)

Without that functionality the idea of having a 'one source of the truth' semantic model and developers creating thin files that are linked to that becomes cumbersome, because naming conventions do need to be updated over time to avoid ambiguity.

Thank you,

PW

@PowerWhy , if you are using live connection and change measure name, as of now the visual will break.

Only in import mode ot do not break.

Hi @amitchandak is it possible to link to a semantic model in a service workspace using import mode? (I seem to only be able to do direct query or live link)
