Difference between share and giving workspace access

Hi,

Is it possible to share a report with a user in Power BI service in a workspace( in premium capacity) without adding the user to a role in a workpace?

When I go into the report there is an option to share, how is this different from giving a user a viewer role in the workspace?

Thanks.

  • Hi, PBIfanatic ,
The difference will be that Sharing will grant access only to the specific report.
Whereas granting Viewer access to that person, allows him to see every report published in the workspace.

      Thanks vojtechsima

if this report is build using a dataset, then does the share option automatically gives read access to the dataset as well?

If the user wants to edit the report, then the user will need a contributor role ??

      thanks.

        Hi, PBIfanatic
        No, it should not.

And the second question, yes, he needs the workspace role Contributor to be able to edit the report.
