Difference between Member and Contributor

Hello,

What is the difference between Member and Contributor in Power BI?

Can they delete reports created by others?

Hi @Lora_0121 - Access to Content:

  • Member: Can view, edit, and share content such as reports, dashboards, and datasets. Members can also add other users to the workspace.
  • Contributor: Can create and edit content in the workspace but cannot share it or add other users to the workspace.
  • Sharing Permissions:

    • Member: Can share reports and dashboards with others outside the workspace if the tenant and workspace settings allow it.
    • Contributor: Cannot share reports or dashboards outside the workspace.
  • Workspace Management:

    • Member: Has slightly more administrative rights than a Contributor, such as controlling some workspace settings.
    • Contributor: Focused on content creation and editing without additional administrative privileges.

  • Member: Yes, Members can delete reports, dashboards, and datasets created by others within the workspace.
  • Contributor: Yes, Contributors can also delete reports created by others. However, this depends on the workspace settings and the permissions granted by the workspace admin.

Hope this helps.

Can the workspace admin prevent published reports from being deleted?

Hi @Lora_0121 -Yes, a Power BI workspace admin can prevent published reports from being deleted by adjusting the workspace's member permissions. Specifically, they can configure the workspace settings to limit the ability of members or contributors to delete content
