Did the Matrix used to remember field formatting, but now it doesn't?

Am I crazy? I feel like the Matix used to remember a measures Field Formatting settings if you removed the field and added it back. Now the Matrix shows default formatting for all fields when you add them (back).

I could be wrong, but I don't recall this being a feature.
