Hi. First time using power BI
I created a report on desktop.
I would have thought it would sync to Service, but it doesn't??
I had to import the file I had created on desktop into powerBi service.. this seems off to me. Am I missing something?
Thanks

After creating a report you need to publish it to the service and modify the refresh if the source of data is dynamic.
Power bi desktop file will change only if you refresh data from it and press the "refresh button"

Yes if you need to make changes , you should open your pbix file , refresh it from desktop, make your changes and republish .
Or technically you can make some chenges from service , less reccomened.

Chiming in along with @Ritaf1983's sound advice. A caution, though, is that, unlike many cloud services where you may have automated versioning and backups, that is not the case with files that you upload to the service. Always keep a local backup of the starting Power BI Desktop file, any intermediate versions, and the final that you upload. Discard as you see fit once the file exists in the service as intended.
Thanks for replies. So they're not synced, then? After publishing to the Service, if I make changes to a report in Desktop, I need to publish to the service again and overwrite the preceding one, correct?

Are you meaning, "I assume that when I create a new report in Power BI Desktop, the work is automatically synchronized to Power BI Service? If that is the case, the workflow would be to build in the Power BI desktop and then Publish to PowerBI Service into a specific Workspace. There can be more involved here, though the following URL and article are helpful.
