Desktop Power BI not able to read file

Getting following error while reading Excel file.

"we don't support reading encrypted workbooks power bi"

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

File with Extension ".xlsm" and which contain formulas and Macros  in one of the tab, does not work. There is no restriction or permission required to open this file, however Power BI is not able to open that file.

I have created new file and remove all macros and created file with extension  ".xlsx", this is working.

My question, does power BI not support ".XLSM" format ?

I don't have any protection in my File. There is no permission issue.

Hi @NPatel81 ,

I tested the situation you were having yesterday and tried to reproduce your issue.
If you haven't done anything to encrypt the file, I recommend checking the sensitivity label for the workbook:

Make sure that the sensitivity label is set to the first three.
If the sensitivity label is also not an issue, try changing your workbook to a .csv file, Power BI Desktop does not support encrypted data sources.

Hi @NPatel81
Please try to create one new file and add 2 3 row and try to  import that file into PBI desktop.

just check if this file works for you or not??

Don't forget to give thumbs up and accept this as a solution if it helped you!!!

Hi @NPatel81 ,

It seems that Power BI Desktop doesn't support to fetch data from password protected excel file. Please use normal version excel file instead.

You can remove the password, or ask the owner of the file to remove the password. If you are concerned about the data security of your source files, you can move the files to a secure folder that limited people have access to.
