Default slicer value

Hi guys,

I have a requirement to show a default slicer value instead of all. Consider we have columns Consulting, IT, Tax and Finance and whenever I open the report the slicer should always point out to Tax unless we consider ro change it to other fields. can anyone of you help me with this requirement?

Hi, @Vignesh_98

Users with edit permissons can choose to edit the report slicers and save it again.

If you don't have editing rights, you can also create a personal bookmark to preserve your insight so you can return later. You can even make a personal bookmark your default view of a report, so each time you return, that view of the report page opens first.

Please refer to Use personal bookmarks to save insights and build stories in Power BI for more detail.

Hi Sumanth,

Thanks for the response. Actually I tried the same way. When the report opens for the first time in service it shows to that default value, but when I change the value the last changed value gets retained. Please let me know if you can get my issue?

Hi, @Anonymous
If you upload your report with default selection, it will stay there for each user if you publish it to Workspace App. Then the app will always show the default value you put there for anyone unless someone changes it. But Each user has its "own copy" of the report in the App. So if User 1 changes something only User 1 will see it. User 2 who came there for the first time, will see the default value set by you.

Thanks for your response. Is there any way to keep the value to default? Lets say user 1 came and changed the slicer value and goes away and when he opens the report back I want the slicer to go back to the default value again. Is this possible?

hi Vignesh, The report will always default to the slicer value that the report is published with - PowerBI does cache the report based on user's previous slicer selections but click the reset report (as seen below), this will revert it back to the slicer selection that the report was published with

Hi, @Anonymous
Me personally I have report that shows weeks and I always show the latest week as the first one.
If I write calculated column that evaluates: if this week Is the latest return "latest values" otherwise return the normal value from the column.
Then I set this Latest Week as default value and when I choose something else and then I refresh page I got the Latest Week value again.
You can try to cooperate something like that.

hi Vignesh, if you select "Tax" in the slicer and then pubish the report to PowerBI Service then the selection would be retained when users access the report. Let me know if this helps you with your query.
