Date order on my graph in Power Bi

Hi all,

I am struggling to get my graph to align dates in the order I want. As shown I have no reports posted for moths June, December or now January. This looked ok before i included Jan on the graph, i need it to follow after December but without a registered report captured in Jan i can't include the year in the date hierarchy to have it show after December.

Is ther anyway way i can fix this?

Thanks

Hi @SmcVII

As a best practice, use a dedicated date table with a continuous range of dates. This prevents gaps in the timeline and allows dates to be displayed even when there is no corresponding value in the fact table. Also, ensure that show items with no data is enabled as Power BI automatically hide rows with blank values.

1) Use a Date table
Make sure you have a proper Date table with at least:

  • Date
  • Year
  • Month Number (1–12)
  • Month Name (January–December)

2) Sort Month Name by Month Number
In Data view:

  1. Select Month Name
  2. Sort by column → Month Number

3) Use Month Name (from Date table) on the axis

  • Use Date[Month Name] (not a text month from the fact table)
