Date Slider format

In the embedded playground, the Contoso report contains this date slicer. Anyone know how they managed to format the slicer that way (no circles, just a line)? 

Also, I love the blocks before the title on the slicer header. Can anyone advice me on how that was done?

Hi, for the square next to the name, I have used unicode characters before in a card visual. Not sure if it will work for a slicer header.
