Date Slicer Causing Issues in Desktop

Hello,

 

I have a report that has worked fine for about 4-5 years with minimal maintenance.
It is published to the online service and it updates automatically 4x per day without issue.

Recently, though, as I've downloaded the file from the service to make model changes, I've noticed problems with my date slicers. 

I can't update the earlier side of the slider to anything. If I do, it crashes visualizations. I CAN, however, affect the later side of the slider, and it works fine.

Here it is working:

Here it is working if I adjust the right (later) date:

And here it is breaking some items when I try and adjust the left (earlier) date:

This is the basic formula for my date table: 

Date Table = CALENDAR(Date(2000,01,01),Date(3000,12,31))

Here's another example of one that breaks when I change the start date. There aren't even any calculations here - this is all just returning text.

I have NO idea what is wrong, or how to fix this. Again, they work FINE online and update properly. Just not in desktop. (And I downloaded the newest version of BI today).

We understand that you are experiencing issues with date slicers and visualizations crashing when modifying the earlier side of the slider in Power BI Desktop. Based on our analysis and feedback from other users, this appears to be a known issue introduced in the March 2025 update (version 2.141.1228.0) of Power BI Desktop.

Please note that this issue does not affect the Power BI Service, where reports continue to function and update as expected.

As a temporary workaround, we recommend rolling back to the February 2025 version of Power BI Desktop, which has resolved the issue for several usersDate Filter Error - Microsoft Fabric Community

You can download the previous version from the Power BI Previous Monthly Updates page.

Additionally, we suggest raising a support ticket with Microsoft to help prioritize a fix in future releases. If you have already submitted a ticket, we appreciate your patience as Microsoft works towards a resolution.

Hi @apmulhearn ,

Having a calendar table that goes up to Year 3000 (good song by the way) is not the best idea and that's what likely is causing the issue. Adjust it to Date Table = CALENDAR(Date(2000,01,01),Date(2027,12,31)) at least.

Thank you for the reply. The date range has been that large for 4 years without issue, but I have been adjusting it all day as a possibilty. It is presently 1/1/2000 - 1/1/2030, and still failing.

I also had a colleague download the file. She is able to open it and adjust the dates without any issue. It seems to be very specific to me. I am now wondering if it might be related to my Surface Snapdragon/ARM processor?


If it works fine in Service but not in Desktop then yes, your RAM might be the issue.

Not RAM, ARM. But either way, this was not the issue. It appears to be a bug in the March/April, as mentioned elsewhere. Thank you very much for looking into it, though.
