Hello,
I am connecting Power-BI live to my SSAS Server where I have a date dimension. I tried different values for this dimension (e.g. '01-01-2014', '01.01.2014', etc) and its dimension attribute type in Visual Studio is set to "Date". In Power-BI it is not recognized as a Date, since I can not filter it like I can filter dates imported from an excel...
What are my options to import a date from a live connection to a cube? Does it have to be a special format?
Thanks for the help,
Matthäus Kerres
Was this ever resolved? Still looking for a solution.
One thing is for sure you cannot import the date from excel. Please check with this format 01/29/2017.
Hi mattk,
I can reproduce your issue. When we connect to the SSAS in live mode, the date type field will be treated as string, and we can’t change data type in live mode for fields. For this issue, I will report the issue internally and let you know if I get some feedback.

Xiaoxin Sheng
Any update on this Xiaoxin?
Hi did you get any solution for this
The answer seems to be to set the value property in Visual Studio for your date attribute in the dimesion. The value property needs to be date type in the underlying table. Have a look at this: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Cubes-SSAS-Date-Filters-and-PowerBI/td-p/43945
