Data type of calculated measures in Import Mode

Hello.

I red a lot of topics, but none of them helped me.

I'm facing an issue with data types in Power BI Desktop Import Mode, for calculated measures of a SQL server 2016 multidimensional cube.

For each of my calculated measures, i'm using a format string (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms146084.aspx). This format string apply correctly in Excel or Power BI Direct Query, but in Power BI Import Mode, I have 2 problems :

  • The format didn't apply, and the format of the calculated measures is "Text"
  • The data type of the calculated measures is "Text"

I saw that there where an issue for measure containing SCOPE() or DIVIDE() functions, but I also got this problem on simple calculated measures, not using this 2 fonctions.

The result is the same in Power BI desktop March 2016, November 2016, or January 2017.

My users are unhappy beacuse they have to manually select the proper formats and data types.

Can someone help me please?

Thanks by advance.

In Power BI Desktop, when you connect SSAS multidimension under import mode, it just retrieves the data only without taking the format you set in model. And all calculated measures will be evalulated as text type. You have to edit it manually. Unlikely, if you open live connection, it takes everything from the model directly. You can't edit anything. This is known "issue". Please vote this idea:
