Hello Every one,
Am new to Power BI, started exploring Desktop. I have created a .PBIX file with mysql as data source. I was stuck with finding 2 things and need to know weather we can acheive them with Power BI Desktop.
1) As am using MySQL as my database and created the reports in PBIX file, can we protect the connectionpool for the user not to change the datasource and restrict them to the particular database.
2) Can we protect the PBIX file with password, as we open the file it should pop up for the password.
Does these things can be possible with power BI Desktop?
Please help me in understanding and exploring more....
Hi @pooju123,
1) It is not possible to restrict users' access to data source or credential if you directly share pbix file with them. One workaround is to publish reports to Power BI Service, then, you can only share report/dashboard with others, those recipients have no access to dataset.
Reference: How should I collaborate and share dashboards and reports?
Share dashboards with coworkers and others
2) There is no such a feature that supports to protect the PBIX file with password. But you can store your pbix file in an encrypted folder. And share folder with others, anyone wants to view reports have to provide password to open the folder.
Best regards,
Yuliana Gu
there is no such kind of option to protect the data source or credentials, however, there is an option to publish to Power BI service so that you can protect your data source & credentials, else PBIX file is not supported to share if you concern about the data & data source or credentials modification of report.
