Data source credentials global vs current file

Hi,

When I go to File -> Options and settings -> Data source settings  I see that data source permissions can be saved globally or in the current .pbix file. Can somebody elaborate a bit on this, when I create a new .PBIX file, are the data soure credentials always saved both globally and in the new file?

Thanks for the help!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Data Source in Current File:

It will show all the data sources used in preparing the current open Power BI Desktop project.

Global Permissions:

It will show all the data sources which are used till date to prepare different Power BI reports.

The credentials you use to connect to data sources won't be stored in each PBIX file and it will be stored local. You can refer to this blog: Are local credentials or passwords stored in the Power BI Desktop file?

And then, when you connect to the same data source or refresh data next time, you don't need to give permission.

Of course, you can also clear those. On next refresh you would be prompted to enter the details again.

Best Regards,

Icey

I don't understand this. When I open the global permissions tab, all I see is a blank page, there is nothing in there, what does that mean?
