Hi Everyone,
we're using Power BI for every of our customers and we have experienced severe problems with data refresh.
Data Stored in a PostgreSQL Database
Storage Mode in Data Model: Import
From all I know, the Import connection to the data just extracts the data from your database and pulls it into the Power BI Desktop.
So here's my problem:
I open the report in Desktop Mode, then go to "Transform Data" and from there I will refresh all tables that I have as Queries (see picture 1)
Then I will look at my tables and sort by date desc, so I can see if the newest data is there. It is fresh every day because the API pulls data daily. In my example we want to see the 14th of February 2021 in the report. So in the Table in Queries I can see this specific date. When I then click "close & apply" as usual, it will obviously hop to the actual dashboard.
Sometimes it loads all tables but most of the times it loads only some tables - even though I did refresh all tables (and there are changes in all tables since a new date is added through the refresh of the query).
So 80% of the time I have to click the refresh button in the report view again and only then it will load all tables. My problem here is, that it will never load in my newest dates - even though I've already seen them in the queries view.
I am only able to load in the data if I go back to query mode - filter the data by the new date which I wanna see and then apply that. Then if it is loaded I have to go back to query mode and remove the date filter. After that, all data that I wanted in the report is there.
This problem also leads to the report in the online service not updating - even though the gateway is setup correctly and we have a scheduled refresh.
Does anybody else have these problems?
I know this is an old post, but I do not see a resloution, and I am having the same issue.
In the Report, whne I hover over the query, it shows me a last refresh date - I would expect them all to be the same (i.e. today, right after I hit Close and Apply), but I they are all differnt, soem are weeks and weeks old. How can I get Desktop to actually refresh all my queries when I hit Close and Apply?
Hi @Anonymous ,
Did you deselect the "enable load" option?
Best Regards,
Yuna
@Anonymous , there is a refresh on the home tab (Not Transform data) , refresh it, and check to get new data.
If not the open power query and check for any error
Hi @amitchandak,
i am aware of that button and have used it. The new days aren't loaded, no matter how many times I use the refresh button. When I check the Query, there is no Error
Hi @Anonymous
You are able to view data in the Query Editor as after applying some filters or transformation the underlying M Query changes. Any changes in the M Query refreshes the Query and data and whenever you choose Close and Apply data refresh happens. If there are no changes in the Query for example if you havent done anything like applying filters or transformations that particular table wont refresh and all the tables where any sort of change has been done will only refresh. Its not basically an issue but thats how Power BI Works 😀
If you want to view the latest data you can publish the report on Power Bi Service and enable schedule refresh. This will refresh the underlying data set and you would be able to see the refreshed data without any issues.

Please accept this as a solution if you question has been answered !!
Appreciate a Kudos 😀
Hi @jaideepnema,
thanks for your reply! We did not have that problem years before it only occured now. We have a scheduled refresh for every of our 120 customers' reports and they always refreshed with no problems. A few months ago the problem occured first, that the report in the online service did "refresh" but it didn't pull the new days from the query. There isn't an particular error shown for this report and the gateway also refreshes the report, when i click refresh manually in the cloud but it still doesn't pull the new days.
