Hello,
I have an issue with my data. When I am on my Power BI Desktop application, all my charts and tables display correctly. However, when I publish the app to the web, the elements that are based on data from a SQL Server database connected via DirectQuery do not display. I get the following error message:
Sorry, there was an error retrieving data for this visual.
Unable to extract data for this visual. Please try again later.
Try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide this information.
Do you have a solution for me, please?
Thank you for your help.
Quentin
Solved! Go to Solution.
The only needs is that the gateway has access to the server on which SQL server is installed and access to Power BI services (depending on your company, some ports will have to be open)
The first thing you can try, is to use a personnal gateway (your laptop will be used as a gateway), it is easier to deploy
Let me know if you can use the personnal gateawy, then i could guide to set up an enteprise gateway

Did you set up a data gateway?
Direct query needs an acces to your sql server (on premise)
Without gateway, the conneciton is not possible, it is the same if you try to refresh a report in import mode using SQL Server as data source
Thanks for ur answer.
I installed a gateway this morning, but I'm still getting the same errors.
The SQL database I am connected to in the Desktop app is on a remote desktop. Do I need to install the gateway on this remote desktop?
I'm a beginner with this topic and I don't fully understand how it all works.
Thank you.
