Dashboard Vs Report features

Hi There,

I want to know which is the best way to put across information to the uers, is it Dashboard or Report?

Coz, there are no filters on Dashboard, for any other details, information we need to come to Report page to see them, hence what is the use of Dashboard? Why should we just pulish the report instead of Dashboard?

Any though around this ?

Cheers,

Hi @goutambhatt85 ,

You could refer to this resolved case. Your reports may be complicated and you could pin the key content to the dashboard.

You create reports over your data model using the tables, columns and visualisation tools. You can't create a dashboard this way. Once you have a report, you can pin individual visualisations from a report into a dashboard - it is like a cockpit of individual visualisations and/or whole reports. Dashboards can have multiple tiles from different reports and different datamodels. When they click on a tile, the report opens.

In Microsoft Fabric, the distinction between dashboards and reports lies in their purpose and functionality:

  • Dashboards:

    • Provide a consolidated, high-level view of key metrics.
    • Pull visuals from various reports and datasets, offering a unified perspective.
    • Are interactive but limited to the visuals pinned to them.
    • Ideal for monitoring KPIs and quick decision-making.
  • Reports:

    • Offer detailed, multi-page data exploration.
    • Support interactive filtering, slicing, and drill-through capabilities.
    • Focus on analyzing data from a specific dataset.
    • Best for in-depth analysis and generating insights.

Essentially, dashboards are for overview and monitoring, while reports are for analysis and exploration. Both are essential in building a comprehensive data strategy in Microsoft Fabric.

Hi @goutambhatt85 ,

Dashboard is very good to use if you want to show different reports in one screen by pinning visuals from your report.

Try visiting the links that @amitchandak provided. It will help you a lot.
