Dark theme background breaks in Focus Mode

I am using a dark theme, but my visuals lose their dark background when entering Focus Mode, reverting to a white canvas (see attached screenshots).

How can I force the Focus Mode background to inherit the report's dark styling or preserve the visual's container background?

  • Hi,

As long as I know, the focus mode doesnot inherit theme settings.

    Hi smpa01 ,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft community, what you're seeing is expected behavior with Focus Mode.
Focus Mode renders visuals in a separate container and does not fully inherit report level or theme based background settings. As a result, even when using a dark theme, the canvas in Focus Mode defaults to a light background. At the moment, there isn’t a way to force Focus Mode to respect the report’s page background or theme styling.
    As a workaround, you can:
Explicitly set the visual background (Format > Effects > Background) to a dark color
Use Spotlight mode instead, which preserves the report’s theme and layout

If consistent dark mode behavior in Focus Mode is important, we recommend submitting this as a feature request via the Ideas forum.

    Thank you.
