Custom Font to use in Power BI
Hi burakkaragoz,
thank your for the quick reply.
When I want to use the font in Power BI Dekstop (before publishing to the cloud!) already here the font is showing only the default font. I want to solve this step at first, afterwards I take care of the cloud.
Don't you think the usage of a corporate font makes sense?
PunChili ,
Ah, wait - if the font isn't working even in Power BI Desktop, that's a different problem entirely. If you've installed the .ttf files locally and they work in Word but not in Power BI Desktop, here's what to check:
Font installation issues:
- Make sure you installed the font "for all users" not just your account
- Restart Power BI Desktop completely after installing fonts
- Check if the font name in your theme file matches exactly what Windows sees (sometimes display names differ from actual font names)
Theme file problems: Open your JSON theme and check the font name. It needs to match exactly:
{
"name": "YourTheme",
"dataColors": [...],
"textClasses": {
"callout": {
"fontFace": "YourExactFontName"
}
}
}Font name debugging: Open Windows Font Viewer and check what the actual font name is - it might be different from the filename.
Power BI Desktop limitations: Some font formats don't work well with Power BI Desktop even locally. Try creating a simple text box and manually selecting your font from the dropdown. If it's not there, Power BI can't see it.
Corporate fonts absolutely make sense! The problem is just that Power BI has quirky font handling.
Can you see your corporate font in the font dropdown when you select a text box in Desktop? That'll tell us if it's a theme file issue or a font recognition issue.
