Hi, I´m new to Power BI and still struggling with basic stuff 😉
I´m trying t create a waterfall chart from a table with one entry for credits and one entry for debits per month.
When plotting, it joins both (debit and credit) on each month, plotting only the net amount. But I need the waterfall to show how much entered and how much exited in each month.
Anyone can give me a hint on how could I do this ?
Thanks a lot!
Hey, antoniofreitas
This is exactly what I am looking for as well. Were you able to figure this out?
Hi @antoniofreitas ,
Waterfall charts show a running total as Power BI adds and subtracts values. These charts are useful for understanding how an initial value (like net income) is affected by a series of positive and negative changes.
If you want to show the amount of money coming in and going out each month, create the "clustered column chart" visual object.

Thanks for the response, but its the waterfall that I need. I want to show the evolution of a marketing fund over time, with cash injections and expenses, but my spreadsheet only have one injection and one (total) expense per month.
When I try to populate the waterfall, it adds the injections and expenses in one monthly column and shows only the net...
Hi @antoniofreitas ,
Sorry for that the information you have provided is not making the problem clear to me,
please provide some sample data in your tables (exclude sensitive data) with Text format and your expected result with backend logic and special examples. It is better if you can share a simplified pbix file. Thank you.

Hi! Sorry for the delay - I was away on travel 🙂
Basically, I´m trying to get this type of chart...
Out of an excel table with 2 entries per month - 1 for the total income and 1 for the total expenses. (I couldn´t attach the excel file here - can it be done ?)
Couldn´t attach also the pbix file (don´t know how) but this is the closest I got to it:
As you can see, I had to do some gymnastic to have the columns separated, but could not get the X axis legend right (months)
Thanks a great lot for your help!
