I would like to create a button in plain sight rather than expect the user to see the "..." to export the data from my visuals. Is there a way to make a button mimic exactly what the "Export data" selection does?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I was able to do a workaround by creating a button > Action > Web URL. I copied the link to the Excel file (minus any link info after the filename so it doesn't just open the file) and it initiates the Save As dialog.
@TreadSlim , I think using power automate you can do
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I saw that video but Power Automate doesn't appear to have a "Save As" feature built into it--rather, it's built-in flows require to connect to another program such as Outlook or SharePoint. There may be a way to do what I need in Power Automate, but if it isn't built-in, I have no idea how to do it.

Is this because the data source for the table is an Excel file in Sharepoint/OneDrive?
If so an export to Excel button would still be very helpful for anyone using any other type of datasource (database, API, etc)
Would be helpful to show how you got the URL. Thx.
Yeah, how did you get the link to the Excel file?
How did you get the link to the Excel file?
It's been a while, but I think I just copied it from the Excel file's location in SharePoint. I can't remember if I copied from the opened Excel file's URL or clicking the check circle next to the file and right-clicking and Copy link.
So it sounds like you used a Power Automate to save to sharepoint first - then created the button to the Excel File located? That would make more sense.
Do you or anyone have an example of what this would look like in PBI??
