Container exited unexpectedly with code 0x80131623. PID: 15164. Used features: (none).
Hi
Please could someone assist. All of a sudden my PowerBI Desktop gives the following error in Direct Query when i try to Refresh Data "Container exited unexpectedly with code 0x80131623. PID: 15164. Used features: (none)."
These datasets were working and refreshing before, nothing has changed with my datasets and they are simply select from tables and they refresh perfectly inside the transform data menu.
Things i have tried
- Clearing Power BI Desktop Caches.
- Fresh installs of Power BI in both x32 and x64
- Removing all measures and relationships
This is driving me nuts so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Below are the diagnostics, i dont know how much they will help but ill include them anyways.

Are all the tables in this PBIX file in Direct Query mode? If you don't click Refresh button but do some operations on the visuals (such as sorting, filtering, creating a new visual from the data... these operations will try to get data from the data source directly in Direct Query mode and only refresh the page), will this error occur?
Additionally, can you try if you can connect to the same data sources with the same connection mode in a new PBIX file and refresh them?

Hello! The same thing happened to me!
I fixed it by renaming the queries where I had the error and after that it let me load them without issue.
Same issue. Same solution. Renaming the container error query made the issue go away. This knocked out one of my reports for a week. Power BI is such a POS. I see why Microsoft gives it away for free.
I got this error code as well. It drove me nuts and left me dead in the water for weeks. For me, the issue was caused by switching from the standalone PowerB BI app to the Report Server version. The uninstall of the standalone Power BI Desktop did not purge or delete the cache created. Using the Report Server version appears to have ended up creating a new cache but the app itself pinging both caches and coming up with 'duplicate keys'. I couldn't clear the cache from inside Power BI (it gave the same error again) but was able to manually clear the cache from my user > AppData > Local >Microsoft > Power BI Desktop -- and Power BI Desktop SSRS -- Cache folders.
