Connection to Vertica with Power BI Desktop

Hi,

In our company we use Vertica. IT department created databases for data analysis purpose. I’m trying to connect to them via Power BI desktop, but receive an error. In the instruction on Vertica web-site

(https://www.vertica.com/kb/Integration-with-Microsoft-Power-BI-Connection-Guide/Content/Partner/Inte...),

is written that I must install Vertica CE and deploy vMart database, is it true(what is the purpose of such steps), or everything that I need are: server, database, login, password?

After testing different ways to connect to Vertica it was found that IT department gave me wrong server name and password)))

But I want to notice other users that there is no need to install "Vertica CE and deploy vMart database" to your local machine to connect to Vertivca database as was mentioned in Vertica web-site, you just need  server, database, login, password.

Hi @Oleg_F ,

Power BI provided a connector fot Vertica, so it need your credentials, server, database.

Vertica client has a ODBC driver to connect woth Power BI and vMart provides database which is necessary to Power BI.

Of course, these are just what I learned from the link. You could ask Vertica for more advice.
