    Hi snzpowerbee

Welcome to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum. Also, thank you Irwan for your response.

The issue arises due to authentication limitations in Power BI Service when using the Web connector to access Excel files stored on SharePoint Online. While Power BI Desktop can seamlessly refresh data using your logged-in Microsoft credentials, the Power BI Service requires explicit authentication configuration.

To resolve this, navigate to the dataset settings in Power BI Service, select “Edit credentials” under the failed data source, and choose
OAuth2 as the authentication method. Sign in using your Microsoft 365 account, ensuring it has at least read access to the SharePoint file. Avoid using “Basic” or “Anonymous” authentication, as these are incompatible with SharePoint Online’s security policies. Additionally, set the privacy level to “Organizational” to prevent conflicts during scheduled refreshes.

For improved reliability and consistent authentication handling across environments, it is recommended to use the
SharePoint Folder connector instead of the Web connector. This connector is specifically designed for SharePoint integration and offers better support within the Power BI ecosystem. Once these configurations are correctly applied, your dataset should refresh successfully both manually and on schedule in Power BI Service.
