Connecting to SQL Server by IP address

Hello, when I'm using management studio I can access db by ip address:   But when I'm trying to do the same in Power BI: I'm getting error:  Details: "Microsoft SQL: A connection was ...

    Hello, the problem was that I tried to connect to SQL Server 2000.

    It's working in newer versions.

Hi papke,

 

I just verified that I can connect successfully to one of my remote SQL Server by IP address with my Power BI Desktop. I'm using the latest version of Power BI Desktop(2.42.4611.701 64-bit (January 2017)). And I'm using (IP,Port) for the Server field in Power BI Desktop.

 

 

Could you go to download the latest version of Power BI Desktop, then run it as Administrator, and type (IP,Port) for the Server field to see if it works?

 

If it still does't work, I would suggest you also go a SQL Server Forum for better assistance, because the issue seems more related to SQL Server configuration issue.:smileyhappy:
