Connecting to LinkedIn via API

Hello,

I wanted to create a report to analyze LinkedIn Business Page data. Yet I have been struggling with LinkedIn API for a while.

Anyone had the same problem and might know the solution?

Hi @syl-ade ,

Connecting to the LinkedIn API, especially for Business Pages, can be tricky because LinkedIn restricts API access for most users and apps. Based on your screenshot, it looks like you’re seeing the “Access denied” error when trying to use the Community Management API.

Why This Happens

  • LinkedIn restricts most APIs: Access to the Community Management API and other Business APIs is only granted to approved (and often partnered) applications. Regular LinkedIn apps created in the developer portal do not get access by default.
  • Your organization may not meet the criteria: LinkedIn only approves access for specific business use cases and organizations that go through their partner review process.

What You Can Do

  1. Apply for Access:

    • Go to your LinkedIn app’s settings in the developer portal.
    • Click on “Products” and try to apply for the necessary permissions (like Community Management). You’ll likely see a form to request access or will be prompted to become a LinkedIn Partner.
    • More info: LinkedIn Marketing Developer Program
  2. Check LinkedIn’s Requirements:

    • Make sure your use case fits LinkedIn’s allowed API use cases (mainly analytics, social listening, or management for business accounts you own).
    • Read the documentation and terms to see if your organization qualifies.
  3. Alternatives:

    • If you only need analytics for your own business page, sometimes you can use LinkedIn’s built-in analytics export tools.
    • 3rd-party reporting services (like Power BI connectors or tools like Supermetrics) might also help, but even they require LinkedIn API approval.

Summary

  • This is a common problem—most users are unable to use the LinkedIn Business APIs without explicit approval.
  • You need to apply for access and may need to go through a partner process.
  • If you don’t get access, consider using LinkedIn’s built-in export features or approved 3rd-party tools.

Let me know if you need step-by-step help applying for API access or exploring alternatives!

Sorry, the "Identity vetting failed" means your LinkedIn app has not passed LinkedIn’s business verification or API access review or you are trying to access restricted endpoints (like Community Management) without proper approval

Do you have a LinkedIn developer account and do you have a registered LinkedIn app with access to the Community Management API?

Please mark this post as a solution if it helps you. Appreciate Kudos.

Yes, this screenshot is from the app. I am asking about this "Identity vetting failed" notification. I have contacted LinkedIn about supporting documentation, but maybe someone from the community had the same "failed authentication" situation.
