Connecting PowerBI Desktop to same Oracle instance with two different credentials

Hi Power BI Community,

Sure this is not a new subject, I have seen multiple posts but not yet landed the solution.

I’m currently working on a project that requires me to connect Power BI Desktop to an Oracle database instance using two different credentials. However, I’m running into issues where Power BI seems to take only one credintial for the same sarver connection.

Question: Is there any way to configure Power BI Desktop to connect to the same Oracle instance using different credentials? Any suggestions or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi ShabibAH

Using different credentials to connect to the same Oracle database instance in Power BI Desktop can be somewhat complicated because Power BI typically caches the credentials of the data source. You can try the following:

    1. Use different data sources
You can create separate queries for each set of credentials. When connecting to an Oracle database, specify a different connection string for each query. In this way, Power BI treats them as separate data sources.

    2. Change the data source Settings
In Power BI Desktop, go to File > Options and Settings > Data Source Settings. Here, you can manage the credentials for each data source. You may need to clear existing credentials and then enter new credentials to make a different connection.

    3. Use direct query
If your use case allows, consider using the direct query mode. This can sometimes help manage connections more flexibly, as it queries the database in real time rather than caching data.
