Connect two PowerBI Datasets

Hi all,

I have a dataset in Power BI for "Sales/Products" which contains a lot of tables that are connected in a data model. The file is very big and we use it only as a basis. The reports are being bulid in other files that are connect to the main file. In the report files I can't change the data/data model/relationships etc. - only in the main file. THe tables in the main file are views of the SQL datawarehouse.

So now, I got the views for "Production/Products" (around 5 tables). I can connect them now in a own dataset and data model. BUT the thing is, that the mangement wants information that requires a connection between Production and Sales (e.g. one table with production costs and time and sales price). Is there a way to connect two datasets? Or do I need to load the production tables into my first dataset file (which then gets bigger and bigger and more complex)?

I can't imagine that bigger companies have one big file with tons of GB... How can I connect the data better???

We already requested external help from an advisor but it seems he has only time at the end of september and this is really late...

Thanks and best regards

Eileen

@Anonymous , Check if the ALM toolkit can help. If XMLA end point is enabled then you should be able to connect to the direct power bi service model

Hi @amitchandak ,

thanks! When I would combine with ALM my datasets then I have in my target file all the data right? So again the problem that the file will get very big in terms of bytes or am I wrong?

Thanks 🙂
