Connect to Service Manager DWDataMart

Hi All

I am trying to connect to the SQL Database "DwDataMart" which holds the Service Manager details i require, however when i try to connect to this Database i get the following error: "   ""   ". I use the same server to connect to the SQL Analysis Server and it works fine.

For some reason i cannot connect to the SQL Databases. I have tried using the Power Bi Desktop and the my online web version.

Please can someone assist as i am trying to create a dashboard which will show the open and closed tickets in real time.

Hi Adriang,

Based on your description, you are connecting to remote SQL Server from Power BI Desktop. Firstly , check that if you can successfully connect to the remote SQL instance from other application(such as Excel) on your Laptop.

Sexondly, if you are able to connect to SQL from Excel on your Laptop, launch Power BI desktop with admin privileges, delete any SQL Server data source from "options" -> "Data source settings" in Power BI Desktop, then check if you can connect to the remote SQL. If the issue persists, please uninstall Power BI Desktop and reinstall it, then connect to SQL Server.

Thanks,

Hi Adrian,

Could you please elaborate more details about that how you connect to the SQL database from Power BI Desktop? You can follow the instructions in this blog to perform the whole connection process.

However, if the issue still persists, please firstly install SQL Server Management Studio(SSMS) in the server that have Power BI Desktop installed, then use SSMS to connect to the database and check if it is successful. If you encounter any errors during the connection process, please help to post the full error message for analysis, and we will appreciate it if you can post a screenshot.

Thanks,

Hi Lydia

Here is my issue, when i add data and select SQL Database i am prompted for my server name and credentials.

For some reason this is very odd as when i at time enter the server name i get prompted for my credentials, when that doesnt go through i try again and this time is doesnt accept my server name so i put in the IP address and i get to the credetials screen. At time i need to add the domain in from of the server name and at times i dont. Also i am a sysadmin on the database but when i add my crentials it says "User does not have authorization". At times it processes the credentials and all i get is the error message:         "   ""  "

Hi Adrian,

Do you use Windows login or SQL login to connect to SQL Server? Could you please post the screenshot. Also use SSMS to test the connection and check the result.

Hi Lydia

I use a windows login which is an Admin account for our environment. I can log on perfectly to SQL using that account.

Below is the error i get. Also note i have PowerBi local on my Laptop and i am connecting to SQL that is not local and is on a server in our domain.
