Connect to Oracle database

HI

 

I am trying to connect to an Oracle database but the connection string I've been given doesn't match the input required. I have no other Oracle client on this laptop. Do I need some Oracle specific DLLs? Or should I go through ODBC (this doesnt work either) Has anybody else connected to an Oracle database?

    I have worked with oracle when power bi was integrated into sharepoint online and i think approach should be same as such.

    You should install oracle client on your machine. install complete admin client so that you can setup tnsnames.ora file properly.

    tnsnames.ora file acts as a middle man where it hosts oracle database entries and its alias. in connection wizard you need to mention this alias name and at run time with the help of this file client should fine correct oracle DB.

    for odbc also you will need oracle driver so either case you have to go through this path.

      Hi,

      I manage to configure the oracle part:

      I can do the following on a cmd:

      sqlplus "user/pass@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(Host=hostname.network)(Port=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=remote_SID)))"

       

      When I try to connect to Power BI with following:

      SERVER:PORT/SID it open the login window

      I input my user & pass

       

      I get the following error:

      Détails : « Oracle : ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor »

       

      I have a x64 OS and I tried on powerBI x32 & x64 :(

        Power Bi insterface to connect to oracle is utterly confusing.

        Put below command in server box:

         

        (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=PGR-PC)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=XE)))

         

        Then you will be prompted to your user name and password of your schema
