Conficting date slicers
Hi all,
I have a challenge in organising my data model in the proper way.
It is a standard Sales Analysis application currently based on a Star Schema as follows:
The tables are connected as follows:
Please note that Dim_Dates is a Calendar table and Fact_Sales table contains both actual sales figures and BDG / Forecast figures. The selection of proper data is made via filters/slicers on the Dim_Scenarios table on the field Dim_Scenarios (Key1). This field is organised as follows:
With two digits for the year, one digit for the Scenario (A=Actual, B=Budget, F=Forecast) and one digit for the version.
Clearly the fact table Fact_Sales contains the same column and is sliced accordingly.
The problem I have is that I want to slice & dice my fact table via a slicer on the FY_Scenario above to get something like this:
However by doing so I lose all the benefit of the calendar table and related date calculation. For example DAX functions like DatesYTD or TotalYTD do not work as the Fact table is not sliced via the Calendar table (Dim_Dates).
The ideal would be to have the Dim_Scenarios Table filtering the Dim_Dates and then indirectly the Fact_Sales but this is not possible as creates a many-to-many relation and I do not know how to apply the other filters based on Scenario (B, F or A) and Version.
Hope is clear enough…
Thanks,
V.
