Conditional Formatting Markers on a Line Chart

Hey! Im looking to have a visual as follows

Line chart by month and value with legend being location. Want when the value goes below specific amount for each location the markers turn red.

The way I did it was with 2 charts overlapping eachother but it gets real messy anytime i change location or month slicer and then it doesnt overlap exactly and it wont allow me to use as slicer correctly (basically not workable but putting here to show what Im looking for)

Back chart:

front chart

Whats a better way to get this done? There used to be the option to color Markers with conditional formatting but that option is no longer available.

Or any ideas for showing this information (value by location with flag by month its below range) in a visual format?

Thanks in advance!

  • Best approach: Use a line chart + scatter plot combo.
    - Line shows all values by location/month.
    - Scatter adds red markers only where values fall below threshold.
Alternative: Use Deneb for full control or custom visuals from AppSource.
Fallback: Use icons or tooltips to flag low values

      Hi djurecic,

Appreciate you looking into this and your fast response!

I saw those tricks previously but doesnt seem to work with a Lengend. Im able to get the conditional formatted markers by having it first as a bar chart but once I add the lengend in the markers disappear

        Hi MStark ,

Yes you are right. Sorry, I didn't notice that you were using legend- I agree that solution will not work.

  • Hi MStark ,

Thank you for trying the approach djurecic  suggested. I understand it didn’t fully meet your needs.
As Shahid12523 , mentioned, there are some other options that could be a better fit for your situation.

If you need more flexibility, you might consider using the Deneb custom visual, which allows you to set marker color rules directly.

I appreciate your inputs Shahid12523 djurecic.

Hi! Yes, you can paint the conditional marker, but you have to do it as a bar first. Create a bar chart, apply conditional formatting, and then transform it into a line chart. You will see that the conditional formatting is preserved in the markers.
    Hope that help
