Composite Model based on live Power BI dataset still possible? (local data options greyed-out)

Hello team,

I am using Power BI Desktop (Nov. 2022 version) with live connection to a Power BI dataset, which I authored and uploaded to "My Workplace". It seems PBI doesn't allow me to add any local data (all import/data options are disabled, screenshots below). However, in this YT video posted 1yr ago with similar set-up (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zktkhM9ZTAE @ 1:20), OP clearly made it work. I wonder what I have done incorrectly, or the option was somehow disabled by MS recently?

Hi yingyinr,

Thanks for your help, yes the option was enabled (screenshot below), unfortunately PBI still grey-out local data options. I tried to enable/disable other preview features to see if it helps, but it didn't work either.

On MS help page below, it says PBI dataset doesn't work with composite model (screenshot 2), which surprises me b/c the YT video seems to work from 1yr ago.

Hi @QC ,

Please check if you enable the feature "DirectQuery for PBI datasets and AS" : File--> Options and Settings--> Options-->Preview features
