I have noticed when opening a newer version of Power BI desktop pbix file that an error message appears indicating to upgrade to a newer version. This is understandable if the versions are months/Years apart. However, I have noticed that this also happens if the versions are even 1 month difference. Does anyone know if this only happens when new functionality has been added between versions which requires an update or is this the scenerio for every new version?
Thanks

Thank you for replying to my post. Just to clarify that if someone had version March 24 and shared a file with someone who has Feb 24, this should open successfully unless the newer version has new features?
if powerbi file detects any feature in new version that is not there is older version then you might get such message. also if you have created a file in older version and then you open it in new version and do modification and save the file with new version then in some cases you wont be able to edit the same file with older version. so its best to use the same version for the same project to avoid conflict of versions specially if you're working with large team where you collaborate your work. becasue your collegues might be using the older version and if you saved the fdile with newer version then your collegue wont be able to do the changes required and then you will have to do their work. so be cautious.

it would open successfully without any conflict but if you use version which is year old then you might get in trouble. unless it's major update you will be able to open successfully and work on it. please mark the reply as answer if this reolved your doubt
