Comparing Tableau Desktop Vs Microsoft Power BI.

Hi,

We as a business are looking at what BI tools to implement.  In previous comanies I have used PowerBI with great success.  looking at about 50 creator/explorer  licenses,

However, the company I work for database system is running on the IBM iSeries DB2

These are some of the points which I think may sway us for Tableau ......

Connects to Multiple datasources with a Live query is run on visual selection

No limit on data points on map

Can schedule reports to be sent to external customers

Where as in PowerBi

Direct Query only works on SQL Server

Limit on data points

Can only schedule reports to those with a Microsoft License

Does anyone knows of ways these points in PowerBI?

  • Anonymous,

As for now the limitations that you quoted exist.

But you can overcome the limitation of scheduling reports to external users by embedding the report to a sharepoint location or a similar web page.

If the users have access to that location, the external users can make use of it

hi Thejeswar  I like the idea of having a company page, the only issue with that is the URL could be shared by Microsoft on other sites, so we could not have any identifiable information

        hi Anonymous,

Here I meant by Sharepoint location or a similar web page, a location/ web page maintained by your company and only it's employees with proper access rights can view it

Correction if I have sounded like me referring to an open web page
