Columns removed from excel file and report not loading

Hello, I am very new to PowerBI and so looking for some help.

I set up a report with lots of graphs, tables etc, with calculated columns and measures in it. My excel source file structure has changed with some columns being removed. These were not being referenced at all. When I try to load the new file, it returns an error. I tried deleting the columns within PowerBI and loading the file so they matched, but this returned the same error.

I spent a whole day working on the report so really don't want to have to start again just because some unused columns are missing from the file.

Thanks in advance for the help

  • Hi catrin,

To what I can understand you are having missing columns from your query editor steps, the solution is going step by step and check where it gives error and then deleting the column name from that specific step.

Can you share some sample to help you better?

Sorry for delayed reply. I figured it out in the end by going into the Edit Queries, then Advanced Editor and removing the columns from the text there. Hopefully that's what you meant, but if not, it worked!!
