Changing column and table names in fabric semantic model breaks report

I have a report that is connected to a fabric semantic model.
I changed some column and table names in the semantic model to be  more relevant to the users, that is what a semantic model is all about.

Now my powerbi desktop report no longer works, every visual says there is an error.
Recreating the report in the same pbix still shows errors.
The only workaround i have found is to create a new pbix and then recreate the report.

Is this known or am i doing something incorrect?

How have we regressed this far with fabric? 
I have hit against at least 5 bugs in the past 24 hours of trying to create a simple report form data verse data in a lakehouse.

This did not work.
The field names updated, but no longer worked in any report in that pbix.
They only way around this was to create a new pbix and connect to the semantic model with this.

I can think of updating references manually: After renaming columns or tables, manually update the references in your Power BI report. This can be tedious but ensures that all visuals point to the correct fields.
