Change default Power BI Desktop app

Hi guys, currently I installed 2 PBI Desktop app:

1. Power BI Desktop (I call it yellow version because of the yellow background)

2. Power BI Desktop Optimized for Report Server (I call it black version because of the black background)

When I double-click PBIX files, it opens in the black version by default. I would like to change the default app to open to the yellow version.

I tried right click PBIX files > Open with > Choose default program > Browse > "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Desktop\bin\PBIDesktop.exe" (this is where I installed the yellow version). But when I choose the app, the yellow version does not appear on the Open with windows. So I could not switch.

Any ideas?

What version of Windows are you using?

    Try this,

    1. Click Start button

    2. Type default and Windows should search for and show you the Default apps (System Settings) app - click this.

    3. You should see alist of defaut apps.  Scroll down the list until you see Set defaults by app - click it

    4. In the next list, scroll down the apps to Power BI Desktop and click on it,then click the Manage button

    5. You might see that there are different apps for different file types

    6. Click the ones you want to change and select the app you want.

Right click on the PBIX file -> Properties -> Change (button near top) - > Select App or More Apps/Look for another app on this PC -> Browse to PBI executable

Have you confirmed the installfolder for PBI Desktop (Yellow)?  Right cick the shortcut -> Properties and check the target

    regards

    Hi Phillips,

Thank you for your attempt. Unfortunately I am using Windows 7. I tried using the Default Programs section in the Control Panel, but still the same result. It's basically the same thing as when I right click PBIX files > Open with > Choose default program

      Hi v-yingjl,

This could be a solution. I am unsure what to do, though. Here I am at the Regedit windows at the said location. What should I do next?
