Hi All,
Can i change filter name in report level filters on power bi desktop?
I have the same field multiple times in my report level filters with diferrent meanings, but i can't distinguish between the differrent fields.
Thanks in advance!
Solved! Go to Solution.
You have to change the field (column) name itself and that should change the filter. So, if you have a "Name" field in People, Departments, Organization and Contacts, you could change their names to:
PeopleName
DeptName
OrgName
ContactName

I was hoping that won't be the answer 🙂
Thanks!
Sorry! Renaming columns/measures does tend to be relatively painless, except that it used to break all of your visuals but calculations using them would automagically change. I think with recent updates, they fixed the visualizations issue. However, I realize that you probably like the way things are named in other circumstances. I'd submit it as an Idea, but not sure if you'll get any traction.
The only other thing I will say is that if you hover over the filter with your mouse for a second, the fully qualified name will appear.
That also makes for an interesting question, though, especially if you have multiple filters for the same field (not different fields, from different tables but with the same name) and each of them implements a certain logic. It might be useful to show people what the filters in that report actually mean.
Examples:
Sales < X => Months under quota
Sales < Y => Critical months
Position == CEO OR CFO OR CTO => Executive staff only
It would be a way to add meaning to the filters to those trying to understand what is being filtered out of the report and why.
