Change Hierarchy Column Name in a Matrix

Hi Experts!

I have been trying to sharpen my hierarchy skills and have run into a snag.

I have the typical matrix with a hierarchy loaded for the Rows. Now, I need to blank out the title at the top of the matrix for the hierarchy which is the name of the top level i.e. "Level1".

Things I have tried with no success:

1. I have tried formatting the text white to make it disappear, but that doesn't work because it formats all the column headers i.e. I can't seem to format the text for the hierarchy independently from the other column titles.

2. I tried double-clicking the Level1 hierarchy in the Rows of the Build panel to rename it like one usually does with measures, but double-click does nothing.

3. I have searched the Format panel to find a place to customize the Hierarchy title similar to how one can customize the Total, but there doesn't seem to be an option for that.

4. I tried renaming the Level1 Hierarchy to a space, " ", in the Data panel, but Power BI won't accept it.

The only solution I have come up with is simply to ditch the heirarchy completely, and load the each level manually, but this seems like a shame. Maybe Hierachies are not all they're cracked up to be, and I am wasting my time?

Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, there isn't a straightforward way to completely hide or blank out the title of a hierarchy level in a matrix visual. However, here are a few workarounds you might consider:

You can create a transparent shape (like a rectangle) and place it over the hierarchy title. This won't remove the title but will effectively hide it from view.

Instead of trying to remove the title, consider renaming it to something more relevant or descriptive for your report. This way, it can still serve a purpose without being distracting.

Thank you everyone for your suggested worarounds. And, I especially appreciate the confirmation from @Anonymous that the feature does not exist.

The main reason I can't just chuck a rectangle over it is because my visuals are transparent, and that would horribly clash with the background. Furthermore, I re-use the Hierarchy in numerous reports. Thus, the context changes from report to report, and renaming it to something more descriptive for one report would break it for others.

The only real workaround seems to ditch hierarchies and just manually load the levels row by row into your report. Then you have complete control over the title.

It's not a big deal, I just wish I knew this sooner before wasting a bunch of time on it. It's these little things that are frustrating and make PowerBI development into a nightmare. Oh well, you live and learn.

I have a similar situation but fortunately I renamed the Level label to something that made sense for my scenario. Are you sure you are ready to ditch the hierarchy just becasue of this? I know I'm not much of a helper in your problem but figuring out the hierarchy and how to add measures to hierarchy was of great help in my reporting.

Grr its an annoying issue to have to face, have you tried chucking an empty button or rectangle shape over the header column?
