Centralized Data Storage for Desktop Users

Hi all - Newbie here.  Working for a client who wants absolute assurance that all their data is safely stored behind their internal firewalls (they use Pki certificates).   Thus we plan to only use the desktop version.

Questions:  May we store the client data and BI models on the clients server so it remains centrally stored and accessible.  If yes, would client be limited to one user at a time?  As we update their model can we push to their server and then multiple users download to their desktops and use?

Thanks in advance for your time and response!  Tim

One pbix file can only be accessed by one user at a time, you can send the pbix file to multiple users and the users shall install Power BI Desktp on their own PC and they can open the individual pbix file.

For you scenario "stored behind their internal firewalls", you can check Power BI Report  Server, which is typically for on-premises scenario.

Sounds like they would benefit from  SSAS on premise to centralise the data model and relationships. this wouldn't be limited to one user per and could be updated as frequently as you require into the desktop client.

HI - as a newbie I have no idea what SSAS is.  Can you point me to some background?  Are there hardware/software cost implications? This is a govt client, so nothing is easy.

Thanks, Tim
