Hi skrape 

 

As of this moment, Azure Maps in Power BI lacks the function of setting fill transparency for custom geoJSON reference layers, only the border transparency can be altered there has yet to be any inherent support for filled maps on census tracts by FIPS codes.

 

Some workarounds are:

  • The geoJSON polygons are pre-styled to incorporate fill opacity before importing into Power BI.
  • The Power BI Shape Map visual does the rest it allows filled polygons by census tract via FIPS codes (but it does lack some capabilities of Azure Maps).

Have you tested that specifying the fill opacity in the geoJSON works and if so can you share details how to do so? I altered the geoJSON to set opacity to 100% but it made no difference in PowerBI.

    After double-checking, I can confirm that Azure Maps in Power BI does not support fill or fill-opacity from GeoJSON files, so pre-styling isn’t effective.

     

    For filled polygons like FIPS tracts, the Shape Map visual remains the best available option.

     

    You might also consider exploring custom visuals such as Icon Map or Mapbox, which offer more styling flexibility though their capabilities can vary.
