Cant open existing report from PowerBI desktop

I tried to open an existing report (last updated 10/25/25) in Desktop but getting this message.  When I click Close, the report does not open and the data source is no longer there.  How can I correct the issue if they are both missing?

I'm not real sure which issue solved the problem.  I removed/re-installed Client 18 and its working now.

Hi @bdherh,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

Thank you @parry2k for the prompt response.

Here since the Oracle connection works successfully in SqlPlus, the oracle server and connectivity looks fine. The issue is likely with the Oracle provider or client in power bi desktop.

  • Please try repairing or reinstalling the 64-bit Oracle client/ODAC and make sure the desktop and oracle client both are 64-bit and then reopen the pbix.

If the issue still persists, please test opening the pbix on another machine to confirm whether this is machine specific or pbix specific.

Thanks and regards,

Anjan Kumar Chippa

@bdherh What version of Power BI Desktop are you using? Can you check the same PBIX on another computer?

@bdherh can you connect to your data source from tools other than Power BI? Seems like you are using DQ, and it is not able to get to the source.

Yes.  I can connect using SqlPlus (Oracle).
