Cannot save or publish PBIP to Workspace

Hello,

since last Friday I cannot save or publish our PBIP Report from Power BI Desktop to a workspace anymore.

If I open the PBIP with Power BI Desktop without doing any modifications then I can save and publish to the workspace without any problem.

If then - in the same session - I modify e.g. a table by adding a column then I cannot save or publish anymore!

- First the Save-Dialog appears and after closing the dialog it seems to save but this is not the case.

- Then no publish window nor an error message appears - Power BI Desktop cannot be closed only using the Task Manager.

What am I doing wrong here? It seems there is a bug in Power BI Deskop?!

I am using Power BI Desktop Version: 2.140.1078.0 64-bit (Februar 2025)

Best regards,

Thomas

@dickel123 That's an early build of February 2025 and February 2025 was super buggy. The most recent version that I know of is now 2.140.1205.0.

Windows Store has updated my Power BI Desktop version again - now it is version 2.140.1351.0

Unfortunately the same behaviour appears. I cannot save or publish to the workspace.

Now what should I do - wait for the next update?

Hi @dickel123 ,

Thanks for the reply from Greg_Deckler .

In addition to what he mentioned about updating Power bi desktop to the latest version, I have a few more suggestions:

  • Verify that your network configuration allows Power BI Desktop to connect to the Power BI service. If necessary, work with your IT department to add the Power BI URL to your allowed list.
  • Verify that you have a stable and appropriate Internet connection.
  • Log in to the Power BI service and attempt to upload a Power BI report from the target workspace using the upload option.
  • In Power BI Desktop, go to File > Options and settings > Options. Under GLOBAL, select Data Load, and then select Clear Cache.

For troubleshooting advice on publish failures you can check out this official documentation:
