The error message you're encountering, "The type initializer for 'System.Net.ServicePointManager' threw an exception," typically indicates an issue related to the .NET Framework or the configuration of your system. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

  1. Check .NET Framework Version: Ensure that you have the correct version of the .NET Framework installed on your computer. Power BI Desktop relies on .NET Framework. You may need to repair or update your .NET Framework installation.

  2. Update Power BI Desktop: Make sure you have the latest version of Power BI Desktop installed. Outdated software can sometimes lead to compatibility issues. Visit the official Power BI website to download the latest version.

  3. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, Windows updates can include important fixes for .NET Framework-related issues.

  4. Reinstall Power BI Desktop: If updating doesn't resolve the issue, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Power BI Desktop. This can sometimes fix corrupted or missing files.

  5. Check for Antivirus/Firewall Interference: Your antivirus or firewall software may be blocking or interfering with Power BI Desktop. Temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall software to see if that resolves the issue. If it does, you can reconfigure your security software to allow Power BI Desktop.

  6. Check for Environmental Variables: Ensure that environmental variables like TEMP and TMP are correctly set. Sometimes, issues with these variables can affect the functioning of .NET Framework applications.

  7. Run as Administrator: Try running Power BI Desktop as an administrator. Right-click the Power BI Desktop shortcut and select "Run as administrator." This can sometimes resolve permission-related issues.

  8. Check for Proxy Settings: If you're behind a corporate firewall or using a proxy server, make sure your proxy settings are correctly configured and not causing network-related issues.

  9. Check Event Viewer: Look in the Windows Event Viewer for more detailed error messages. Sometimes, it can provide additional information about what is causing the problem.

  10. Contact Support: If none of the above steps resolves the issue, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support or the Power BI community forums for further assistance. They may have specific solutions for your situation.

Remember to create backups of your Power BI reports and data before making significant changes to your system or software, as some troubleshooting steps may involve reinstalling or modifying system settings.
