Cannot download App / Content Pack created data from Service to Desktop. Re: Helpshift

Hey guys, I'm following along with this guide: How do I install Power Bi?

  • Our ultimate goal is to get our Helpshift data onto the Desktop version, allowing us to shape it as needed and then merge it into our other reports.
  • The problem I'm facing is that the guides I've found on this, only use the Service, and I cannot download that data to the Desktop version.
    • When trying to download the Service Report, it says "Download .pbix denied in template app datasets"
    • When trying to download the Service Dataset, it says "This feature is only available for reports that were created in Power BI Desktop."
  • So I do not think the above guide is what I need. But I cannot see any other way to get that data into the Desktop version.
  • I do know that it is possible though, as I've seen in done in other projects.
  • Does anyone have any ideas on how I can reach that ultimate goal?

Right, you are going to have to contact Helpshift for this. Everything I have seen from them, they want you to use their Template App but that is not going to allow you to download it to a PBIX. I suspect that they do not support having you connect from Desktop to their data but you will have to ask them that.

Hi , @StefanM
Accordding to the guid you provided, it seems that  you  can create a new report either from your Helpshift dataset or from your existing Helpshift reports in PowerBI service rather than in PowerBI Desktop.

Is it feasible to export the data to excel first, and then import excel data  to create the report on the desktop?

Because even if you can successfully obtain data from the service dataset(you only get the data model in fact),you can’t integrate data with other data sources on the desktop (like live connection mode).
