Cannot connect live SSAS SQL 2012 SP2 CU4 MD Enterprise

Hi,

 

I am investigating a situation where I am trying to connect to SSAS MD cube using live connect in my Power BI desktop. The tricky part to this is that I am able to connect to the cube on the server but it won't load any dimensions/measure groups in the Filter area of a Power BI desktop file and it would just show the loading icon in the Filter area.

 

The details of the versions are - 

  • Power BI Desktop - Version: 2.50.4859.502 64-bit (September 2017)
  • SQL Server Analysis Services 2012 SP2 CU4 (11.0.5569.0) MD (Enterprise Edition)
  • Connecting to the cube over https (using a msmdpump)

 

Has anyone come across such an issue for the above version of SSAS MD? If so, what's the resolution to this?

 

It works fine for me when I connect to a cube on SSAS 2016.

    As confirmed with Product Team, the DataPump connection for SSAS is not supported today. So don't use http access to connect SSAS data source.

      Thanks for your prompt reply. 

       

      If DataPump connections are not supported, how do we (our clients) connnect to the cubes that are not necessarily in their domain?

       

      Do you know any workarounds or point me to any post/discussions around this?

        Any news on that? Are there plans to support DataPump on a live connection?
