Cannot connect GCP MySQL Instance to Power BI

Hi all,

I am having difficult connecting my Google Cloud Platform MySQL instance to Power BI.

I downloaded the mysql-connector-net-8.0.28 (latest version 8.0.33.1 was giving me errors). I have tried using the GCP instance name as well as the public IP (with and without the port) in the 'Server' field, double-checked the name of the database, and even changed my password but am still getting the error: "We couldn't authenticate with the credentials provided. Please try again."

I'm not sure what to try anymore because I know the username/password I entered is correct.

Question, how do on-premises data gateways play into all of this? I created a gateway and it is online and ready to be used, but when I try to add it to Power BI, I am unable to get past the authentication step.

      1. I have installed the MySQL .net driver 8.0.28 instead of the latest (8.0.33.1) because the latest version gave me the error "This connector requires one or more additional components to be installed before it can be used." I found a solution where using an older version would work and it did fix that issue.

      2. I have already whitelisted my ip for my desktop. I am able to open MySQL on my desktop just not connecting it to Power BI.

      3. Can you elaborate on this point? Do I need to enable user access on gcp or somewhere else?
