Hi,
Can we create a file type like .tds(Tableau Data Source) in Power BI(.pbix)?
I want to know the chances of creating data source file like .tds.
Thanks

Hey @mhreddy, unfortunately this is not possible.

Hey,
something similar can be achieved by publishing a data model to the Power BI Service, as far as I understand this publishing should happen without any reports.
After the model is published to a certain workspace, the users can connect from Power BI Desktop to the data model in the service. It doesn't matter if the data model is also hosting the data, or the data model is connected via live connection or direct query to on-premises data sources.
The requirement is, the user must have access to the workspace where the data model has been published to, this is due to the fact, that Power BI doesn't support shared datasets (meaning shared between workspaces):
Connect from Power BI Desktop to a data model in the Power BI Service:
Selection of data model
Hope this is what you are looking for

Hi TomMortens,
Many thanks for your solution. It helped me a lot.
I have another requirement that is migrating the tableau reports into PowerBI by reducing the efforts.
Is there any way to convert Tableau metadata to power BI?.
Earlier we did one conversion using our converter tool from OBIEE to Tableau.
In that case, we converted subject area(By accessing RPD in OBIEE) to Tableau Data Source(.tds), Our tool converts rpd metadata into .tds(Which is having only metadata) file, later we created the reports in Tableau using the .tds file.
Thanks,
